BAYAN MUNA Rep. Teddy Casi�o today bewailed the government's refusal to "grab the golden opportunity to wrest back control of Petron" by refusing to exercise its right to buy even a portion of Aramco's 40 percent stake in Petron, which is being sold to London-based investment group Ashmore.

We protest the ongoing deterioration of the Department of Justice (DOJ) into a tool for political persecution under the regime of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Injustice Secretary Raul Gonzalez.

The DOJ has no independence and no impartiality. Under Arroyo and Gonzalez, the mandate of the DOJ is NOT to uphold the rule of law. It is to uphold the illegitimate and evil rule of the current Palace occupant.

IPU calls on House, Senate to follow-up Alston recommendations

THE MILITANT BLOC in the House of Representatives is calling on the Arroyo government and Meralco to jointly provide relief to power consumers by substantially lowering electricity rates immediately, considering the fact that both parties have profited too much from the consuming public.

It is the height of greed and insensitivity for state-owned National Power Corporation and Meralco to be swimming in profits while majority of our people suffer from unconscionably high power rates.

No to GMA takeover of Meralco

We strongly oppose the Arroyo government�s plan to take over the Manila Electric Company even as we call on Meralco to stop foisting increased power rates by passing on to consumers the costs of its inefficiencies.

The government takeover plan of Meralco runs counter to Mrs. Arroyo�s declared, and consistently pursued policy to privatize the power sector. Although we have batted for state control of the industry to safeguard public interest, we look askance at this volte-face as highly dubious, to say the least.

Congress a miserable failure to workers; no help to workers on Labor Day

A militant legislator criticized the leadership of the House of Representatives for their �extreme insensitivity to the plight of workers and employees as no single of legislation to immediately alleviate their plight has been passed.�

�Our country�s millions of workers and employees will get nothing from Congress on Labor Day. This is already expected since President Gloria Arroyo�s has ordered all her loyalists to block our efforts for a legislated wage hike. Congress has been a miserable failure to workers and employees on Labor Day,� Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casi�o said.
