BAYAN MUNA WELCOMES PARDON OF 10 POLITICAL PRISONERS
Urges the immediate release of remaining political prisoners
Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, vice chair of the House Committee on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, welcomed Pres. Duterte's pardon of ten (10) political prisoners.
The political prisoners released Thursday night were: Emeterio Antalan, Ricardo Solangon, Joel Ramada, Apolonio Barado, Jose Navarro, Generoso Rolida, Arnulfo Boates, Manolito Matricio, Josue Ungsod, and Sonny Marbella.
"This is a positive gesture and bodes well for the continuation of the peace negotiations. We hope that the other political prisoners would also be freed soon," said the Davao-based progressive solon.
"We hope that Pres. Duterte will agree to prioritize the forging of Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms (CASER) simultaneous with or before a ceasefire is effected," Rep. Zarate said, further urging Pres. Duterte "to give primacy to the success of the peace process and not heed the pro-US militarists like Defense Sec. Lorenzana, National Security Adviser Esperon and AFP Chief Año, who are sabotaging the peace negotiations."
"These militarists should instead be fired for bungling the situation in Marawi and for pushing for the declaration of Martial law in Mindanao," he said.
"We reiterate our call for the release of all political prisoners as a matter of justice and for resolution of the root causes of the five-decade old rebellion in our country," Rep. Zarate ended. ###
