BAYAN MUNA TO AFP: WHY ACCEPT US HELP BUT BLOCK HELP FROM FILIPINOS?

At the press conference reporting  the result of the National Interfaith Humanitarian and Fact-finding Mission, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate stressed and condemned the military's arbitrary refusal to allow the entry of their relief and humanitarian mission in the Islamic City of Marawi, despite the proper coordination with the LGU officials.

He added that they were belatedly informed only yesterday morning when the mission was already entering Marawi City that the "military did not allow our entry and they cannot do anything but to submit to it,"

"Ang nakagagalit dito ay kapag mga Kano ang sinabing tutulong ay nagkakandarapa sa pagtanggap maski yurakan na ang soberanya natin pero ang tulong mula mismo sa ating mga kababayan para sa mga evacuees na nagugutom at nagkakasakit na ay hinaharang ng AFP," said the progressive solon.

"Now the AFP is saying that only relief goods from LGUs would be accepted -- but  that was precisely what the mission did in coordinating earlier with the LGU and even with the military in Marawi City. Clearly, the AFP is malicious and discriminatory by belatedly refusing our entry since they allowed other groups with relief goods to enter the city," he said.

"We have already filed a resolution for a congressional probe of US involvement in the Marawi conflict, but, we would also file another resolution to also investigate the circumstances that led to this humanitarian crisis in Marawi, including the effects of the Martial law declaration," added the Davao-based solon.

"The evacuees demand and call for the immediate resolution of the Marawi crisis, the lifting of Martial law and the stop of the aerial bombardments in their communities. They are also asking for continuous relief operations, psychosocial and medical services to address their immediate needs. But more importantly, they want to rebuild their shattered lives in earnest, including the rehabilitation of their communities."

"Naghihirap na nga ang mga kapatid nating evacuees, sana ay wag ng dagdagan ang kanilang paghihirap sa pagharang sa mga gustong tumulong," ended Rep. Zarate.##
